Complementary Therapies for Cancer Care
At Mederi, we understand that living with or recovering from cancer affects every part of your being — body, mind, and spirit. Our carefully designed holistic therapies offer gentle support during this time, helping you find comfort, calm, and a sense of balance.
We offer Touch Therapy, Scar Therapy, and access to our Infrared Sauna, each tailored to your unique needs and sensitivities. Whether you're currently in treatment, in recovery, or navigating life after cancer, our space is here to hold you with care, compassion, and deep respect for your journey.
In the UK, over 385,000 people are diagnosed with cancer each year — that’s more than 1,000 new cases every single day. While advances in medicine have brought hope and progress, many conventional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery can leave the body and mind profoundly depleted. These treatments often weaken the immune system, disrupt the nervous system, and create a lasting impact on the body’s natural ability to heal.
At Mederi Wellness, we offer a gentle, supportive space for people living with or recovering from cancer. Our approach focuses on nurturing the body rather than fighting it — helping you restore calm, support detoxification, and reconnect with your own resilience.
Our Infrared Sauna provides deeply therapeutic heat that penetrates below the skin’s surface to encourage circulation, lymphatic flow, and natural detoxification — all without raising external temperatures too high, making it more comfortable for sensitive bodies. This gentle warmth can help relieve pain, fatigue, and muscle tension, while also calming the nervous system, which often remains on high alert during and after treatment.
When the body is under stress or in pain, it prioritizes survival by reducing blood flow to the skin and limbs, slowing digestion, and suppressing immunity. This state of “fight or flight” can persist long after treatment ends. Infrared sauna sessions may help reverse this response, encouraging the body to shift back into “rest and repair” mode — where true healing happens.
We also offer:
Touch Therapy — a soft, respectful form of massage specially adapted for those undergoing or recovering from cancer treatment. It promotes relaxation, emotional release, and connection to the body in a safe, compassionate way.
Scar Therapy — a specialist technique that gently works with post-surgical or radiation scars to improve tissue mobility, reduce discomfort, and support healthy recovery.
Every session at Mederi is adapted to your needs. We understand the complexities of cancer treatment, and we're here to support you — not with pressure, but with presence, comfort, and care.
Oncology Complementary Touch Therapy
This is a widely used complementary therapy involving a soft, slow, and deeply respectful form of Tui Na Chinese massage, specially adapted for clients living with or recovering from cancer. Only gentle, nurturing techniques are used, with each session tailored to avoid any areas affected by tumours, surgery, radiation, or sensitivity. The goal is to soothe the body, restore balance, ease tension, and help clients reconnect with relaxation and inner calm.
Scar Therapy
This is a gentle, hands-on treatment designed to support recovery after surgery, injury, or burns that result in scar tissue, fibrosis, or adhesions. Using a specialised, non-invasive manual therapy approach, this treatment focuses on soft tissue and fascial techniques to improve the appearance, texture, and overall function of scar tissue.
Scar therapy helps to reduce tightness, sensitivity, and discomfort by gently mobilising the tissue and encouraging healthy movement in the affected area. It can also support better circulation and lymphatic flow, which aids in reducing swelling and promoting deeper healing. By working directly with the scar and surrounding tissue, this treatment helps restore flexibility, relieve tension, and support the natural re-alignment of collagen fibres—making scars softer, flatter, and more comfortable over time.
Reflexology is a gentle, holistic therapy that works by applying light pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, or face — areas that correspond to different systems and organs in the body. For those living with or recovering from cancer, reflexology can offer a soothing way to relax the nervous system, support the body’s natural healing process, and ease emotional and physical tension.
Cancer and its treatments — such as chemotherapy, surgery, and radiotherapy — can leave the body feeling depleted and the mind overwhelmed. Reflexology helps to create a space of calm, often improving sleep, circulation, digestion, and overall sense of well-being. Many clients also report a reduction in anxiety, fatigue, and nausea.
Treatments are always adapted to meet your individual needs, with special care taken around sensitive areas such as the lymphatic system or sites affected by surgery. Reflexology is safe to receive alongside medical treatments and is often a welcome way to reconnect with the body in a comforting and nurturing way.
Reflexology
Originally developed using NASA’s infrared technology, this form of therapy uses gentle, radiant heat that penetrates deep into the tissues — encouraging natural processes of detoxification, circulation, and cellular repair.
Scientific studies suggest that infrared therapy may aid cellular recovery and regeneration by gently raising the body’s core temperature — a process sometimes referred to as mild hyperthermia. This increased warmth can support immune system function, help reduce inflammation, and enhance oxygen-rich blood flow, all of which are important for healing. Cancer cells tend to thrive in low-oxygen, acidic environments — and infrared therapy helps the body become more oxygenated, alkaline, and resilient.
“Heat makes cancer cells appear dissimilar from healthy cells, evoking an immediate reaction. Macrophages are immediately sent to the tumour after the immune system is notified by the damaged proteins on the outer membranes of tumour cells, which stand out sharply from healthy cells. The heat-damaged proteins are subsequently delivered to T cells when dendritic cells (DC) have been activated. In lymph nodes, where T lymphocytes are activated to combat cancer cell proteins, hyperthermia promotes the maturation and translocation of DC. Then, the T cells that have been activated go after and kill the tumour cells.” - Pure Medical

Craniosacral
Therapy
Craniosacral therapy offers a gentle, deeply supportive approach that works across many systems of the body — including the nervous system, musculoskeletal system, immune function, circulation, organ health, and even energetic balance. Cancer, along with treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, or radiotherapy, can impact any or all of these areas — often leaving the body and mind in a state of tension, fatigue, or overwhelm.
Each session begins with a full personal history, allowing the therapist to tailor the treatment to your specific needs and sensitivities. The work is subtle but powerful — many people report feeling calmer, lighter, and more balanced after just one session. Interestingly, the area that feels better first may not always be the one you expected — healing often unfolds in layers.
Craniosacral therapy is safe to receive alongside medical treatments and other complementary therapies, making it a valuable part of integrated cancer support.
Mederi Wellness provides complementary therapies to support overall well-being. Our treatments are not a substitute for medical advice, diagnosis, or medical care. Please consult your healthcare provider before beginning any new therapy.
